Returned my 4GB iPhone, and bought a 80GB iPod (white) for $219! I love this thing! I am finally able to store all my music and videos!

don't be too happy! I only managed to get 18224 songs on it. which leaves me with about 500 to 700 compilation albums not on there. and none of my potential vinyl and mini-disk conversions. should've gone for the 160GB. 80GB is a bit of a lie anyway as the OS is around 6GB.

I bought the older 5.5G. The OS doesn't take up 6GB, the hard drive formatting takes up 6GB. And I only have a 35GB music/video library, so I' m okay.

volker, I don't think the OS is taking up 6gb out of your 80gb, but rather because an 80gb hard drive will give you around 74gb because of the way hard drive manufacturers sell hard drives as "1GB = 1 billion bytes", while the computer sees one gigabyte as 1024 x 1024 x 1024 bytes.*

The iPhone/iPod touch OS is around 150mb, so the classic OS is definitely not 6gb. I think my Mac OS X.4 install is around 5gb.
