Well picked up a new iPod - I went for the black classic 160gig flavor.

Based on my prior thread I was waffling between the touch and the classic. Based on what I've read here and further defined my needs the classic was the one for my.

I opted for the 160gig, purely for the storage capability. I figured its probably a good if I wanted to back up up some of my files and I'll be using it as a backup for my digital camera so while it may seem a little over kill I think it will be good for now and future.

I didn't mind the increase size and weight

Another happy camper

Note that the camera adapter accessory for the previous iPods WILL NOT WORK with the classic.

I don't think there's a working option available yet.

Be careful. With Apple, as with many other tech companies - if something doesn't exist now, don't assume it will be released in the future. Apple may never release a camera adapter for the new iPod line if they don't think they'd sell well. Then again, maybe they will. But don't base your purchase now on the assumption that a camera adapter will be coming.

I agree with Cadaver above. I think Apple is shying away from releasing an accessory like this again, much to my dismay.

Look at it this way, the one category that the iPod is able to blow its competitors away is battery life. They achieve this by applying certain efficient practices. Tossing a power-hungry accessory into the mix is notoriously inefficient, as reviews of the previous camera adapter will show

To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation.

Well, I bought a camera adapter thinking I'd use it a lot, but i've only used it once. The fact that I have a 4GB SD card kinda makes the need to store pictures on my iPod.... nonexstent. And as SD cards get larger, the camera adapter becomes more and more vestigial. And thus I think that's why Apple dropped support for it.

I use a laptop and hopefully soon the ipod to back up my images off of the memory cards. They're too important to me, to just have them on the memory card. Generally speaking if the ipod worked well, it would have replaced my laptop in some instances. In general though I like to backup the files on my laptop, its just nice to have them on a secondary unit.

I also have a Classic for the massive storage capacity and it works like a dream. The recent speed improvements from the software update are also worth grabbing.

I agree. I just picked up an 8GB CF Ultra II card, and use it alongside my 2GB and 512MB. As the capacities get larger, the need to recycle the space is reduced. Waiting to recycle the space using an iPod during the middle of a wedding is not very desirable...

But this is getting off topic. Congrats MacosNerd on your purchase! I'm going to be picking up my silver 160GB very very soon.
