Broadcom introduces 3G on chip | Tech news blog - CNET News.com

This might be what Jobs was waiting for when he said they wanted improved battery life before moving the iPhone to 3G. Does anyone want to go out on a limb and predict Q1-2008 release of iPhone 2.0 w/ 3G?

I'm not sure that Apple would go with Broadcom even if the price was there, though. There are too many unknowns. The idea that the competition is still at least a year away is scary, though.

The iPhone already uses a Broadcom chip for the touchscreen, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure who makes the chip for wireless stuff (cellular/EDGE, WiFi, Bluetooth).

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output
