Earlier today I found my phone laying on the floor in the living room today and noticed that there was a bend on the back plate of it like someone had stepped on it. The chrome surround is sticking out a little bit as well. I have the two year Applecare plan for it but I am sure that it won't cover damage like this. Also if I were to try to disassemble it to push the plate back to shape that would probably void my warranty.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Just got of the phone with Apple and they want $250. They truly are the kings of over charing.

You could always look elsewhere to have it repaired. I'm sure someone out there can do it, but I can't tell you how much they'd charge. At least with Apple, you get a loaner iPhone and your repair is guaranteed.

I'm not sure what charing is

but your upset because apple is charging you a lot of money for the repair. I could see your point If it was a warranty issue, but you the iphone was mis-handled in some form, since it was bent and found on the floor. Not to sound like a jerk, but I'm sure repairing one of those babies isn't cheap.

by the way, I think your warranty is toast because of the damage that was inflicted on it, so there's little danger (other then making it worse) to trying to repair it yourself.

I've done this sort of thing before, and I'm always furious with myself.... can't say I've ever blamed Apple though. :-/

I don't think he's blaming Apple, he just doesn't like what they charge for repairs. It definitely stings the pocketbook, but sometimes you just gotta deal with the price or deal with a busted phone.

Thank you.

Of course I am frustrated with myself for letting it happen but I also think Apple is charging a pretty astronomical price for a piece of pre formed metal on the back. What got me was when the guy said is was $250 for the 8GB, then I asked about the 4GB and he said it was $200. $50 for a tiny little mark on the metal?

Anyway, just going to live with it for now.
