I just got another ipod nano for a gift. The problem is, I already have two ipods and most certainly don't need another. My uncle told me he had it engraved with my name so I assumed it wasn't returnable. However, I realized that I haven't opened it. If I just go to return it will they ask or somehow know that it's engraved? Anyone else done this before?

check the packaging stickers; it may have a note indicating engraving. Or maybe its barcode.

I think their policy is not to accept returns on engraved ones (unless it's broken or needs service)

Please make sure that everything is spelled correctly, as your engraved iPod can’t be returned.

There's no note on the labeling which I can identify as noting the engraving though I'm sure there is one. I'll hit up both nyc apple stores today and see what happens.

Anyways, tried apple, bestbuy, and tekserve today. No luck at any of them.

Just going to sell it on ebay, 8 gb starting at 160, figure I can probably sell it that way.

If it's engraved, you might have a harder time selling it.

Have you thought about selling one of the iPods you already have and keeping the one our uncle gave you? It seems like a really thoughtful gift.

For the right price, I'd buy an engraved iPod that said something like, "Happy Birthday Mary" or "Sorry for your loss" (do people give iPods for consolation?). I can't remember the last time I saw the back of one of my iPods anyway!
