My 3G iPod won't reset. Here's what happened: I hooked it up to iTunes to update it. Was downloading a couple of Podcasts, and it just locked up. I Force Quit iTunes, but it didn't help the iPod. So I did an iPod reset (pressed and held Play and Menu buttons), and it started doing what it's doing now, which is it clicks off, then comes back on with the Apple logo on the screen and it just stays there. So I reset it again and it just keeps doing it. I tried to let it sit and let the battery run out, but it goes to sleep and saves the battery. I've tried rebooting iTunes, unplugging and plugging it back in, tried the harder reset holding the select button and the menu button, but nothing works.

Has my iPod finally had it? Any ideas about what's happened to it?

I finally managed to drain the battery, and plugged it back into my Mac and it still won't come up. The Mac doesn't recognize that anything is plugged in. It just keeps showing the Apple logo, and every once in awhile I can hear it click like the hard drive is cranking away. Does anyone have any idea what might have happened and if this is fixable? I know I have an older iPod, but I'm hopeful that it still has some legs. For what I need it for, it's still fine.

Can you force disk mode? It should allow you to do a restore:
