I recently purchased a second hand iPod video 30GB and everything works well except I can't get it to be recognized by iTunes on either my MacBook or my Macmini.

I plug the iPod in and it charges and shows up in the system profiler. But the iPod will not show up in iTunes or Finder or Disk Utility. The iPod does show the "Do not disconnect screen". I've done a software update, rebooted both of my Macs, fully charged the iPod thru the wall charger, changed the usb cord, plus I've restarted the iPod but nothing has worked.

The previous owner had setup the iPod on Windows.. could that be the problem? I don't have a Windows machine to try this on.

All I want to do is to get the Ipod restored to the factory defaults so I can start loading my own music onto it.

Thanks!

Does anybody know a way to restore the iPod without plugging it into a computer? The iPod does show up in the Apple system profiler.. could there be a way to reformat it through there?

Thanks

You can try completely erasing it using Disk Utility, and then restoring it through iTunes.

is there some trick to get the iPod to show up in disk utility? Right now it only shows up in the System Profiler... Is there any kind of terminal trick to restore it?
thanks
