My gf got an iphone for xmas and was shocked on the "great" plans offered by ATT. So I thought I could unlock the phone and try to use it on Tmobile (it will be used in the US).

1. I was going to use iNdepandance to activate the phone, the iphone came with 1.1.2 sw on it so according to their website I have to downgrade it to an earlier version, thus allowing it to be activated without Att and upgrade back to 1.1.2, via the program. any experiences using this method? bricking potential?


2. actually unlocking the phone I'm still kinda miffed about what to use. A google search yielded some hits but the information is a tad outdated - any programs to suggests or methods?

I'm fearful of "bricking" the phone and like to be able to undo anything that I changed on it.

yup - I'm partially at fault for getting the phone for her and assuming that the plans would be favorable to tmobile and verizon (she talks alot, much to my chagrin). TMO offers a plan that she would be able to talk to her friends on other network for 1/2 the amount of money AND twice the amount of minutes compared to ATT.

Seriously any suggestions?
