So with the new update for the iPod Touch am I only allowed to download new emails or can I sync up current emails that I have downloaded in to Apple Mail?

When you sync, all the emails (old and new) are synced. Its basically as if you got onto the internet and logged into your .mac mail account.

I don't see any of my email accounts listed in iTunes, so I'm unable to sync my touch with my Apple Mail. Is there a trick to getting the accounts to show up there? I've looked through all the iTunes and Mail settings, but don't see anything obvious.

You have to set up your .Mac account or other email provider within the iPod Touch Mail application. It pulls the mail down from your server over Wi-Fi and not through iTunes (basically, a mobile mail client).

I understand that. I'm talking about syncing my local email account to my touch. Under the Info tab in iTunes, there's an option for syncing email accounts. However, there are no accounts listed, even though I have one.

Interesting, that must be a new 7.6/1.1.3 option as I don't have that at this point. Maybe it's syncing the mail setup only?

Hello,
the mail app(on the touch) is not set up like itunes where it syncs over the stuff you already have.
It is a mail client. Just like Mail.app or Thunderbird.
You can set up a gmail account then have certain messages forwarded or redirected to the that account that you would then check from your touch.
hope this helps

With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

I had the same problem with iTunes recognizing my gmail account. I disconnected my Touch and then completely powered it off (holding down top button until it asked me if I wanted to power off). I then turned the Touch back on, hooked it to my Mac, iTunes launched and recognized it.
I'm still trying to figure out how to "sync" the account. I sent myself a test email, saw it in Mac Mail on my computer, resynced, but the email message didn't show up on my Touch. hmmmmmmmm

As others have said, mail on the iPod touch will get mail directly from the internet, it doesn't need iTunes to sync email messages. But it must be imap to view it both on your mac and on your ipod - if it's pop mail, once you view it on your Mac (assuming you have the option set to delete the mail from the server) it won't show up on your ipod.

I understand that I can access my email via WiFi, but is there a way to sync it over from my Mac for the times that I don't have WiFi access? One of the reasons I want to do this is for sending myself files that I can access from Touch (word, PDF, etc...) thx
