I'm curious, does everyone consider the Touch a huge upgrade video wise over the Nano? I carry a blackberry curve that holds my calender and web access and all that, so all I really need are the true ipod features. I need to upgrade my ipod mini though so I need to figure out if I would actually get enough extra use out of a Touch to make the price worth it....

If you already have a Blackberry I would say that the touch really won't do you a ton of good. You'll probably be just as happy with a Nano. The screen is very very nice for videos though if you plan on watching a bunch.

If you're going to be playing music mostly, then go with the nano, if you are going to be watching alot of movies, go with an iPod Touch, the screen on the Nano produces a great picture but I get a headache from watching something on such a small screen. Don't buy an iPod Touch for its PDA features though, it's got some cool apps but as of right now, it's more of just a fancy iPod, which I guess is what Apple meant for it to be.

I pondered over the same exact thing. For workout warriors and people-on-the-go, the nano's size wins out. I love my nano usually for music and the occasional kid's movie for my daughter when we're on the go. It's my main iPod.

I am contemplating getting an iPod touch later this year though. That iPod touch will most likely replace the portable DVD player for my daughter when we're out of the house. Then I can finally reclaim my precious little nano.

then you have your answer. you dont have use for a Touch
until Apple gives us a headphone remote like the iPhone headset the Touch won't have the one feature that its missing to make it like a normal ipod

disagree.
it doesnt matter that you added the addendum of "right now" to cover your claim. With the SDK weeks away its not hard to imagine what direction the Touch an iPhones are headed. Developers are going to turn this into a full out pda platform. Anything short of that and they'd be wasting their time coding for it.
The touch is not a fancy iPod at all. It doesn't even feel like one when you use it. It has several nice DAP features but holding it you know it has much more potential as something else.

I have to agree with you there. What the Touch can become is very interesting. I would not use the PDA features, but the video is sorely tempting, and then there is the possibilities once the SDK comes out. I do watch a lot of video podcasts so the screen would be put to use.

Yes, yes and yes. The January software update is so outstanding that I want to go out and by touches for all my friends.
