I have a 3rd Gen ipod that I know has a battery that is shot (won't hold a charge). The other day I plugged it into the dock to sync it. it was plugged in for about 20 minutes. When I took it out of the dock I noticed it was really hot. Almost too hot to touch. Is this due to the battery problems or something else? It was also making a clicking noise

Probably a short. Clicking noises point to the hard drive.
