Is there a way to make sure that any email I read on my iPod Touch while away from home will also be downloaded to my home machine when I'm at home? I don't want to get into a situation in which I have some messages on my machine and some on my iPod.

Depends on the email service. If it's IMAP, you won't have an issue, as all email is kept on the server, and changes are synced there (e.g., flagging or marking a msg as read). POP is more problematic.

What type do you have?

Earthlink POP.

You can just tell it to leave messages on the server (if the Touch has this option), and they'll stay there until you download them from home.

If you want something more manageable along the lines of IMAP, I recommend a GMAIL account, configured for IMAP on the Touch and at home, and set up GMAIL to check the Earthlink POP account.

I have a GMail account, but the Earthlink account is still my main one. Thanks for the info, though.

edit: Found my answer: made sure the iPod is set to never delete messages from the server.
