I have recently received an error message regarding my 30GB 5th Generation IPOD. I have tried restoring the IPOD a few times but keep receiving the message that "Itunes has detected an IPOD in recovery mode. You must restore this IPOD before it can be used with ITUNES"
I have uninstalled Itunes and then reinstalled it but keep receiving the same message
I have also tried alteranate USB ports and restarting my computer then retrying the restore feature but no luck.
I have gone further and tried using Windows XP (operating system that I use) disk management to format the IPOD and then restoring but I have had no luck. Both the IPOD and ITunes seems to be working fine independently but I keep receiving the same message
Any Ideas what else I can do?

Try holding down the menu button and the centre button for about 10 seconds (until the ipod does something) either when the ipod is not plugged in to the computer or when it is.
Just a suggestion, tends to fix most things.

I am having somewhat the same problem. I get the restore message, and I am able to restore with no problems. Then my ipod will work fine for a few days or so, then I get the restore message again. I have replaced the battery recently, so I know its not the battery. I have had the ipod for close to 3 years, is it just getting ready to die? It's driving me nuts.
