Anyone here use mp3 ringtones on their iPhone?

I used to have a Sony Ericsson and MP3 ringtones sounded great. However, if I play mp3s through the iPhone speakers, they don't sound very impressive and full of distortion in anything over 10% - 15% volume level. Is the the same with the ringtones where they sound pretty bad?
I'm thinking about getting ambrosiasw's ringtone manager for mp3 ringtones which is why I ask...

I do, using good ole quicktime and itunes and they sound just fine.

Same here. Using Audacity makes it even better though (for levels).

QT or QT Pro though I believe the same thing can be done through garageband.
