If this is not the right forum, my mistake and hopefully someone will move it.

Now, T-Mobile users: What type of data plan are you on, if any, to surf the web via EDGE? Price?

Market Savvy: I am currently in the market for an 8 and 16 gig iPhone2g. As it stands, the prices on these suckers is quite high, dare I say in comparison to a new 3g at 199. My question is, do you think the prices for these older models will come down, and come down soon? Or do you think it's going to be the opposite as they now are no longer made and the prices rise? I'm just trying to get a feel for what's happening before I take the plunge on an 8gig for 275. Thanks.

The cost of materials is higher for the older model, so the price is fairly inelastic. Once the 3G comes out, the value of the 2G will drop to some value below that of the newer, faster model.

You'll have quite the difficulty actually *finding* a 2.5G iPhone.

I'm on TMobile and currently use their Tzones web for my web access. Any modern smartphone can use this for full internet access (as I do on my iPhone). It Costs me $5.99/month. Just so you know, surfing over EDGE is lousy. I use the connectivity for maps more than I do surfing, and a little email.

The price on the older iPhones will drop. I suspect they will float around $200-$250, it's tough to say though. Sellers will leverage that you don't have to have a contract.

I'm on T-mobile with the BlackBerry data plan for $20/mo... I should look into switching to that $6 T-zones thing when I re-up in September for the BlackBerry 9000 (Bold).
