Hmm. If I'm gonna have my whole life on this iPhone 3G, I was wondering if MobileMe users would have remote wipe capability like enterprise users. That alone would make paying for MobileMe worth it.

I don't see why remote wipe should be limited to just enterprise users. It could be a huge selling point for MobileMe. I know a lot of consumers (myself included) would love this feature if our iPhone or iPod Touch was lost/stolen.

I doubt it will be there initially as they probably would have mentioned it, but I am guessing that it wouldn't be hard to implement it.

Well you could just delete everything on your computer and then it would be all instantly deleted on your iPhone.

If your phone were stolen, I don't know if you'd feel comfortable in the knowledge that the person who has it has access to your e-mail accounts, your entire contact and calendar database, as well as photographs of your family, and your most-used bookmarks (and possibly the one or other password).

But hey, to each his own.

I know it's not much help, but I have the passcode lock on my phone set. It won't stop someone who really wants the info, but I know that for the average Joe, the only option they have is to restore from the computer.

Does remote wipe do 7-pass or better wiping? Because just plain erasing it wouldn't remove the data.
