Hi, I just installed Quicktime 7.5 (updated from 7.4.5), and now I just plugged in my iPod Touch to update it with a few songs, and the iPod Touch is no longer recognized by my iMac or iTunes.

I tried plugging it in with the iPod both on and off: That did not work.

I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cables. That did not work. However, the iPod is getting its battery charged by the computer when plugged in.

I tried iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X and under the following sets:
-- Restart your Mac: That did not work.
-- Go to Apple - Support - iPod touch Troubleshooting and reset the iPod: That did not work.
-- Go to iPhone and iPod touch: How to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service on Mac OS X and remove/reinstall Mobile Service: That did not work.

I searched the internet to see if anyone else had this problem related to Quicktime 7.5, no luck.

I tried searching these forums for "iPod Touch Quicktime 7.5" and got no results. I then tried "iPod Touch not recognized" but saw nothing relevant to Quicktime 7.5.

Edit 1: Solution (Note: see Edit 2, the problem is not resolved) was to reset the iPod Touch following the directions found at Some problems the new iPod touch users may meet - Softpedia Forum and not Apple's website, then wait 3 minutes after restart for iTunes to finish responding.

Edit 2: iTunes froze intermittently, and then when I thought that it would finish updating, iTunes gave me an error that said (something like):

The iPod "[name of my iPod]" could not finish syncing, because the device timed out.

In addition, my computer has yet to display the iPod Touch during/throughout this whole situation as a Hard Drive in the Finder.

Edit 3: I just tried manually resyncing with the iPod connected and listed in my iTunes library, and I received the following error message after iTunes froze for another 2-3 minutes:

The iPod "[name of my iPod]" cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found.

Edit 4: Disconnecting the iPod from the iTunes "Eject" icon and then physically disconnecting and then reconnecting the USB to the iPod does not show the iPod Touch back up on the screen anywhere anymore.

Edit 5: Problem resolved (Note: See Edit 6, problem is not resolved). I switched USB ports from the hub directly to the iMac, then back over to the hub, keeping the iPod connected the whole time.

Edit 6: Wait, disconnecting and then reconnecting the iPod Touch all of a sudden doesn't work anymore. It seems as if since the Quicktime 7.5 update, no longer can I use my USB 2.0 Hub to connect my iPod Touch to it (which is then connected to the USB 2.0 port on my iMac), but since the update, now I have to connect directly to the iMac in order for this entire scenario to be avoided. WTF?!?! When I use the hub, I might also sometimes get the following error:

iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "" because an invalid response was received from the device.

^ Yes, the error message thinks that it's an "iPhone" and not my "iPod Touch."

Edit 7: Meanwhile, my iPod Shuffle continues to have (even after the Quicktime 7.5 update) no problem with connecting through the same hub.

What is going on now?!

Is the hub self-powered, or do you have an external adapter for it? It's possible that if it's self-powered, that's could be the reason there.

Well the USB 2.0 hub is currently connecting to just one USB port on my iMac, not two.

Is it really possible that the difference between charging the battery + using it as a hard drive at 60% battery life and charging the battery more slowly + using it as a hard drive at 90% battery life is considerable enough for the iPod Touch that I would need both hub plugs connected to my iMac?
