Hey everybody,

I was looking at news online this morning and a young celebrity was shown is some candid photo from this week holding what appears to be a new black iPhone? The online image wasn't very good resolution and I tried to zoom in on the device. It looks like a black model, possibly in some sort of clear case. Looking closely, the power button at the top also appears to be silver/metal rather than the current model's black plastic button. You can clearly see the Apple logo contrasting against the black back of the device and I have not seen any case for the current iPhone that hides everything in a color except for the chrome logo like this looks.

Again, this is just from looking at this online news pic, but it sure has me wondering who might have these in their hands already....?

Thoughts?

A celebrity using your product is nearly free marketing; all it costs you is some ass-kissing and a free whatever-it-is-you-want-promoted.

It could also be customized; why would *I*, a wildly popular and famous celebrity, want to use the same thing everybody else does? I got the cash, I want my widget to be unique!

Yes, it is Lindsay Lohan. The news article was something about new movies or something and this was just a random photo with no mention about the iPhone or anything... it just caught my attention.

The shiny black back and the silver power button really made me take notice. I also thought it may be a current gen. (non 3G) model that had received the Colorware treatment and true, celebrities can afford to have this kind of customization. The other weird thing is the circle just above the Apple logo which is what made me wonder if it could be some sort of clear case? Who knows, but I just thought it would be interesting for everyone to see.

Shouldn't the camera be on the other side?

Besides, shouldn't Steve be picking better role models as iPhone promoters. Hanna Montana and Larry the Cable Guy would be two much better options.

Not sure if you're talking to me, but I was just commenting that the camera is supposed to be on the back. There is no front camera, as there is no video calling with the iPhone. Where on the back I dunno, but it's in a different spot on the previous iPhone as you pointed out.

Personally I think having a camera lens right above the Apple logo is not ideal in terms of aesthetics, but who knows.

Some Sony Ericsson phones are almost like that though.

It looks like a Blackberry.

If Apple was going to give out early iPhones to celebrities, I'm pretty sure they would have picked someone else.

I dunno... can't you see the Apple logo on the back? Is there another make (Blackberry, BoingoBongo?) that has a similar logo with the power button in the same place and the chrome ring around the front with the same shape as the iPhone? All the BB's I've seen are wider and shorter than this device looks.

Yeah, that's no iPhone.
The blown-up version makes the silver ornament look like a Apple-logo, that's about it.

I agree. That's not an iPhone and the close-up photo is HORRIBLE. Anything that pixelated will look like an Apple logo.

It's a BlackBerry Curve. I have one. Camera location is correct as is the overall shape. The shiny part that everyone thinks is an Apple logo is the self-portrait mirror. In the zoom, you can even see it's the crimson model (the one that i have).

Agreed! I think it's safe to say that it's not the new 3G iPhone.

I've heard of Apple giving an iPhone (previous gen) to a celebrity (Ellen Degeneres), but this was a week or two post release date.

There's no way Lindsey Lohan already has a 3G iPhone. I mean come on. Look at poor Kiefer Sutherland. He went to an Apple store trying to get a new iPhone...... and was DENIED.
