My powerbook g4 ate itself the other day so I went and got a new macbook pro and they were offering the free ipod touch promotion so I picked up a 32gb touch as well. I was in a bind and absolutely had to get a computer this last weekend so I wasn't able to wait out any pending upgrades for the laptop or the ipod. I know the ipod app store is going to be opened in a week or so but will my ipod touch be able to use it? Will I have to buy new software? Will apple just give me the software because I bought the ipod just a couple weeks before the app store opened? I haven't read a lot about whats going on so maybe some of the questions i'm asking are "under wraps" and no one really knows but if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

It will be $10 for the new software when it comes out in a few days. There is usually a policy of free upgrades if you just bought software shortly before a revision comes out, but I've never heard of that happening with this kind of thing. But maybe you can get it free if you whine to someone at Apple about it, I mean, ask nicely via email.

You'll be able to get it for free. For everyone else it's $9.95.

So those of us who bought a iTouch a week or two before the 2.0 software release will get the upgrade free? I am not saying your wrong but apple charged for the upgrade even if you get one after without the upgrade in January! I think of Its going to be $10 no matter what, without an iPhone of course.

They don't charge you if it was purchased 15 days before the update, or in this case software upgrade. Of course, it won't just show up in your iTunes as free, you'll have to contact Apple and let them know when you purchased it.
