I just noticed that MobileMe syncs ToDo items. I'm hoping iPhone will get this functionality soon.

I don't know why the iPhone doesn't sync To Do Items, but it never has. MobileMe does, however, so we can hope.

I was shocked when I saw the To Do support in MobileMe, good catch Kman. Apple never mentioned To Dos being supported before, so maybe this is a new and late arrival to the feature set.

And if MobileMe supports ToDos, I gotta think the iPhone will sooner or later. Knowing Apple, that means later, but hope springs eternal.

The todo functionality in MobileMe isn't ready for prime time. You can't assign a date to a to do, you can only change the category by dragging it on top of a calendar (the list of calendars on the left), you can't set MobileMe to remember your preference to display the todos by default... It's almost as if they released it by accident. Oh, and the todos you create/edit in MobileMe don't sync to iCal.

This is incorrect. MobileMe To Dos are sync'd to iCal, but, as with all the other MobileMe services, they are not pushed to your desktop. It appears that Apple only syncs desktop items every 15 minutes. MobileMe web apps and the iPhone/touch are pushed all the information, however, instantly (or within a few seconds).

So, here's the scoop. Desktop sync occurs every 15 minutes, except for Mail, which occurs on your set fetch schedule. This seems to be true in both directions. If you create an item in iCal it may take up to 15 minutes to get sync'd to the cloud. Any events present in the cloud (from a web app or iPhone) may take 15 minutes to get down to iCal. MobileMe web apps and iPhone are pushed all MobielMe information. An event created on the iPhone appears instantly on the web apps and vice versa

After the iPhone 3g was released, one of the apple execs was talking about missing features in a press conference. Apparently, there was a priority list and things like to-dos and copy/paste functions lost out to gps and other functions. My guess is they will update sooner or later.
