If you go to Settings-->Mail, Contacts, Calendars--> and scroll to the bottom there is a setting for 'New Invitation Alerts'. Has anyone been able to get an invitation alert?

I made a new event in my wife's iCal calendar and sent myself an invitation. It showed up on my desktop iCal calendar, but I didn't get any notification on my iPhone. Am I missing something?

Watch Apple's iPhone 3G Tour video, and when the guy demos the iCal features of the iPhone 2.0 software, you'll notice a little Inbox icon in the lower right corner of iPhone's iCal app.

But that icon is missing in the 2.0 software update that's now installed in my iPhone. In other words, I think Apple must have left out the feature at the last minute. Honestly, I'm hoping that Apple puts a To Do icon in that space instead. The fact that To Dos are supported in MobileMe (when they had never been mentioned as being supported in any Apple sales material beforehand) hints at an upcoming To Do feature on the iPhone itself.

I had the same question. Where was the supposed calendar invite alerts?

I went back and looked at the iPhone 3G guided tour and it cleared it up. It said, "If you are using Exchange to sync your calendar, then you can....."

Basically, only in exchange do you get to view invitations and accept/decline. I tested this by setting up a fake exchange sync account and the icon appeared in the lower right of the calendar screen. It just is not a MobileMe feature yet. It should be an enhancement in the future if MobileMe is "Exchange for the rest of us".

But it's clear they intended this feature for MobileMe as well since the option isn't grayed out or missing if you don't have an Exchange calendar setup. It wouldn't be very Apple-like to leave this option available if it didn't apply.

Furthermore, if you go to an event on your phone that you were invited to, it says "Invitation from..." and lists the person's name. You can click on it and email them and you get a list of the Attendees as well. There's just no way to respond to the invite.

I think the above evidence would suggest that they did pull it at the last minute or just didn't have time to implement it satisfactorily yet, but I think it is coming soon.

Also of note is that there is no way to send an invitation from the calendar web app.
