I noticed today that the same search on the iPhone YouTube app and www.youtube.com give different results. And actually I was not able to find a clip I know exists on YouTube through the iPhone.

Does this have something to do with the h.264 re-encoding of the YouTube content? Is this just temporary until they have everything converted or is there some other kind of iPhone YouTube limitation?

It's either that or copyright. I have noticed that I can watch BBC's videos here in America on my iPod, but if I go to the video on Youtube.com it won't show up. If I send myself a link to the video, it gives me a message that I can't watch the video because of copyright. Sucks, because I love to watch Top Gears.

So is there any way to check in advance if a certain YouTube clip will be available on the iPhone?

Sounds like it to me. You display something if you can't play it?

it is because the ipod/phone app uses http://m.youtube.com (mobile version) and not the normal one
