just curious as I keep my white in an iSee clear case. The case is getting the scratches and my phone itself is pretty brand new looking. So how are your phones if our don't case em? I know in my old 1st gen iPhone, the aluminum back was pretty solid without much 'wear'. Smudges on black? Noticable scratches etc? Just wondering as it's plastic instead of metal back there.

Scratches yeah, even many but hard to notice (I have a black one) and smudges basically cover all of them. Now, I got a brand new phone because an old one was messed up and I bought a case for it. As far as I see I have only one scratch going vertically from putting it in the dock. The rest is perfectly clear no scratches even under very hard sunlight. Also, my mute button is a bit scratched but that's like nothing Get a case for it and you should be good. Clean it once a week and even better!

I have had my 3G for two weeks now. No cover. And absolutely no scratches. I am quite surprised how well it's holding up. I carry it around in my front pocket. I don't put any keys or coins in that pocket, but that's it. It' still looking perfect. I'm glad I won't need to be getting a case for it.

And the little cloth it came with is perfect for wiping off finger smudges every once in a while. The grey cloths Apple puts in their ACD boxes work too.
