Ok, so I have around 40 apps on iTunes, and about 20 or so that I keep on my phone.

The few times (a couple of weeks ago) that I tried bulk-updating through the app store on the phone, the phone freezes up and refuses to start, and then I have to go through the whole deal of restoring it through itunes (waiting for iTunes to recognize it too) and then finally reloading from a backup.

Since then, I haven't tried to update any apps directly on the phone for fear of bricking my phone again. On the phone, it says I have 10 updates, and in iTunes it says I have 8 updates. I tried to download the updates through iTunes, and it told me which apps were available for update and everything, but then when I clicked "download all free updates" nothing happened.

Now, iTunes still has the "8" next to the apps list, but when I click check for updates it says everything is up to date (even though nothing downloaded).

I've also tried clicking "check for purchases" in iTunes (which I think worked once before?), but no luck this time.

So I have a bunch of apps with updates, and no way to install them.

Anyone else have this problem, or is it just an isolated incident with my phone?

I use the Update All button in iTunes most of the time. It's quicker that way for apps that have huge updates -- Ambiance, I'm lookin' at you.

For smaller updates, I do 'em when I notice them. Sometimes that's from the App Store on the iPhone. Both methods work for me. Both are not quite flaky, but not quite bulletproof either. I'd say 2 or 3 times out of 10, something goes wrong and I have to start over.
