Sweet. There have been two lawsuits against Apple that I've actually supported. I've been hesitant to buy an iPhone because of these two issues:

1. AT&T contract lockin (US)
2. No easy way to replace the battery (Everyone)

The first issue is currently being addressed in court, I'm hoping Apple will lose. The second issue (at least for EU members) is going to be addressed by the EC. I hope Apple will comply to that.

Hopefully we'll see a v4 iPhone with no contracts and a user replaceable battery.

What about version 3? We're only on the second one now.

1. Bringing a lawsuit against Apple for legitimately contracting with an exclusive carrier is like suing GM because you lust after a Corvette but are only willing to buy it from a Dodge dealer.

2. Battery replacement? Seriously? By the time the battery on my 3rd gen iPod died, there were much smaller and improved iPod choices. Made more sense to put the battery replacement money towards a new iPod rather than keeping the old one.

Of course, you probably won't like that second analogy because you (or someone) sued over that as well.

This is stupid.

1. Companies have a right to contract with each other. Kudos to ATT (for once) for doing whatever it took to land Apple's iPhone. The contract is not indefinite, Mr. Impatient. Where are your damages? What is your claim? Where is the lawsuit?

2. Try AppleCare. Most people I know get a new cell phone every couple of years anyway. Socialist Europe would definitely poke at a company for something as trivial as whether one particular phone being sold in a continent that is mother to a larger and more prominent company - Nokia - has access to a battery.

I agree. None of my other phones needed a battery replacement and they lasted 2 years with no problems (unless the phone died from me dropping it too much).

Worse.

It's like suing GM for not selling you a Prius.

Effing bullsh!t.

And one thing is for sure: before Apple will bow to socialist demands in Europe, they're gonna skip that market altogether.

Apple should pull out of Europe if they decide to use the judiciary to regulate the crap out of American business. This will only hurt European consumers.
