I just got my AppleTV from the Apple Store but haven't taken it out of the outer cardboard box yet, thinking I might want to return it if they announce a new related product on Tuesday. What do think, gang?

Tuesday is a notebook event. I doubt there will be any AppleTV news, but you never know.

Apple Stores supposedly provide a 15 day money back guarantee.

Well, AFAIK you have 14 days to request an RMA; once you do that, the clock starts ticking off 14 more days from that point where you must return the item. You can avoid the 10% restocking fee if you don't open anything.

My dearest wish is for Jobs to announce a refresh of AppleTV, price drop, swappable (and bigger) hard drive, gigabit ethernet, and maybe a built-in cabletv tuner or radio tuner plus audio amplifier? I know, I'm dreaming.

If anything outside of notebooks will be updated, it will be Mac Pros.

Doubt it. There would be signs of that before hand.

I'd say wait: it's only a few days away and while I doubt you'll see a new AppleTV model, at least you won't feel bummed if by some odd chance it did happen.

Keep it boxed until then, to avoid the restocking fee.

Good luck.

Thank you, dimmer, for the encouragement. Got through the whole day today, but I can't stand looking at it. Into the closet it goes. EDIT: That's it. No new AppleTV today (Oct. 14th), so I'm hooking up my AppleTV now. This should be fun. It'll be nice to be able to show my family slideshows without having them all huddle around the computer, and of course an easy way to play back my protected iTMS content.
