I have an itouch 1st gen it's about 18 months old. I jailbroke it and I'm believing that it's leading to the problem I've been having with my sleep/power button not working. I tried restoring several times but I don't think it's actually wiped out all the previous software. BTW im not running version 2 im still on 1. The reason I believe that it isn't completely updating is because the ziphone icon is still on my ipod. So at this point its restored with the same problem. Im wondering if theres a way to COMPLETELY wipe out ALL the software on the ipod and restart it from COMPLETE scratch (ie reformat that memory).

Tap on the Settings application from the Home Screen
Tap the General option in the menu
At the bottom of the next menu, tap the Reset option
Choose one of the four reset options
That is a reset.
Here is a restore.
Restore
Try restoring iPod touch using iTunes.
Connect iPod touch. When it appears in the Source list, click on Restore in the Summary tab.

Thanks I've tried both with nothing working. It's starting to get annoying and apple's solution to my problem is to charge me 199 and send me a refurb.

DFU Mode is what you're looking for.

If it's still broken, it's hardware, not software.
