Anyone try it? It's crashing constantly for me. I've got an unlocked/jailbroken 1st gen iPhone with latest OS. First time I used it to make a call, my phone hard-crashed. Never had that happen before.

Is this an official or unofficial app? I don't see Skype in the App Store, though it could just be one of those limitations of the Canadian store I suppose.

It's showing up for me, DLed it.
Made two successful test calls, no hitches or crashed (non-jailbroken iPhone 3G).

Did you restart your iPhone after downloading and installing it ?

It's an official app. May not be available in the Canadian store. I had to go into iTunes to download it. It didn't appear in the App Store on the iPhone.

Was forced to restart after the hard-crash. I've tried rebooting the phone again just for kicks. No luck. It's very buggy for me. If I start the app and then just leave it for a minute or two without doing anything it will crash.

I doubt it's because it's jailbroken. I've never heard of that causing a problem ... but you never know.

No crashes for me. Left it running for about 15 min, no problems.

It's been all over these very forums, you know.

cttbwwhatever (the Riverboat guy) gloated about having copy/paste on his iPhone, and two weeks later, he'd already reverted back to stock because the damn thing kept crashing.

Yep, Skype is apparently available for the iPhone in every country where the iPhone is sold... except Canada.

I guess I'll be sticking with Truphone for the time being.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Canada is the country that wanted to charge text messaging fees for tweets. How stupid is that?

Exactly the same here. I'm very satisfied so far. Obviously if it would work over 3G (calls I mean) it would be even nicer. Gotta love those carriers.

It's a patent issue, nothing to do with Canada. There are easy ways to get yourself a free US iTunes account, the download is freely available that way.

The tweet issue is nothing but the usual idiocy from Bell. They have since seen the error in their ways.

I guess I haven't. The people I know with jailbroken phones have never complained of problems.. and I've been using an unlocked/jailbroken phone for a year and a half with no issues.

In this case though, it was a problem specific to jailbroken phones. A fix has already been made available. For anyone with a jailbroken phone, just go into Cydia and install the MobileSubstrate update.

There is a conflict with Clippy. But even with Clippy removed the Skype App would crash consistently after about 40 seconds. There's a pretty good write-up in the link I provided explaining why it would crash.

Installed it this morning. Very pleasantly surprised by start-up time, features and voice quality. Love the contacts integration. I use Skype on the laptop all of the time for outgoing calls, this means I can now walk about the office and not be tethered to the MacBook. Cool.

If I'd still be a teenager on a budget in an urban environment where I'd have near constant wireless access I'd be selling my cellphone and buying an iPod Touch right now.

Really? I'm perplexed by this application. First of all, none of my contacts appear when I touch the "contacts" icon except "Skype test call". They do appear when I touch the "call" icon and then "contacts" but when I try to place a call by touching one of those contacts a message appears saying I need to purchase skype credit in order to use my own contacts.

I already have the $3 a month Skype membership and from what I can gather that should cover it. Strangely, if I dial the number directly I do get through. It seems they want to charge me a premium to use my contacts list. Annoying. Maybe I'm missing something?
