hey there, i got an unlocked iphone and i'm having some problems with it.
is there anybody here who knows a lot about this stuff and can help me out?
basically, my problems are.
on itunes, i can't do anything with it. i sync it and all, but i can't add apps or delete music. nothing.
i don't think it's even registering it as an iphone, it just says the name i gave it under the device.
i am guessing it's a firmware problem since the firmware currently on it is 1. something something.
old?
how can i fix this?
and also, in the front page of itunes, where it shows all the information. (serial number, etc)
where it says the phone number, the phone number is not my phone number?
my sim card is in it and i can go on the internet and call and everything, so what's going on?
how can i fix this?
i don't want to update and re-lock my phone because i don't know how to unlock it,
and from what i've heard. you can't unlock it from the new firmware?

anyway, if somebody could help, i would be very very appreciative.
if you want to talk on AIM, my screen name is SPNarwhal

thank you thank you thank you

(the phone is a 2g by the way, if that makes any difference.

I'll start off with the 'easy' bit, the SIM. Let's say you have two numbers - SIM A and SIM B. SIM A is an old one with a number you'd like to keep and SIM B is the one in the iPhone. When you transfer the number (eg. 07744 123 456) from SIM A onto SIM B, iTunes will still see the SIM as the old SIM B number (not the new one that you have transferred). Even though if you call that number, it won't work - but if you call SIM A (which is now transferred to SIM B) it will work. Either you, the seller or someone else has transferred a new number at some point to the SIM you are currently using - that's why the number is wrong. Hope you understand that, can't explain it any better at this time in the morning

Updating to 2.2.1 will remove the unlock on your phone unless it is a factory-unlocked version. If you are on 02 (or AT&T if you're American) you may as well just do it anyway as you can jailbreak it again, and you don't need to unlock it. If you are on a different carrier, and because you are on an older firmwire, it is possible to get a 2.2.1 firmwire on the phone and keep it unlocked.
