My brother bought a new iPod 2G shuffle and is trying to sync it with his Windows XP Acer laptop. It does not sync. It says that it is synching but it does not do anything. However, upon using the iPod reset utility (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238), it does sync upon a 1st time. However, disconnecting and reconnecting the shuffle doesn't resync the shuffle again. Only using the iPod reset utility does it sync a first time again.

Silly question, but does he have the latest version of iTunes (for Windows, obviously) installed? These new Shuffles are new enough that slightly older versions of iTunes may not properly recognize them yet.

Yeah, he does. And it is the 2G shuffle and not the 3G (the newest one) shuffle.

Oh. A "new" 2G is a completely different situation. I'd say it may be an issue that's bad enough to take the iPod back and get it replaced.

Any USB hub in between? Has he tried using different USB ports or removing any other USB devices?

From another board, someone suggested to enable disk mode on the shuffle and everything works! Hope that this helps other people.

That's just freaking bizarre, but if it works, I'm glad!
