Apparently, the new operating system 3.0 will enable the recording of various outside voices, including long interviews.
Today, it is done with the help of third party software.
One of the biggest problem of this feature in the third party software is that, while on recording, an interview for example, and if an incoming call arrives, the recoding stops, and one should relaunch the process.
Is the new capacity Apple proposing for recording wouldn't suffer from this handicap?

In the latest beta, there is a "voice memos" app that can record sound (and you can trim it - very nice interface to do it). I tested an incoming call whenever I was recording and it did stop recording (nor did it re-start once the call ended).

A solution is to put your iPhone into airplane mode for the duration of the interview, so that you aren't interrupted by any calls.

Thanks for your reply. My concern is whether the stopped recording is abled to continue the current recording from the point it was stopped, or one should starts another recording fresh.

Can these voice memos then be downloaded to a computer through iTunes? I confess that was one of my biggest issues. I'd have loved to use my iPhone for recording some stuff but it's pretty difficult when you have to email a file to yourself.

I used QuickVoice with big deception, and even after upgrading it, I couldn't import the recording, about i hour long, to my computer. Their support is lousy and was not of any help.
I use now iTalk and it works great, even though the company has no plan to continue it, may because of the recording capacity of the iPhone version3.0. It record very long conversations and it is easy to transfer to my computer. The weak point is that it is unable to resume the same recording after incoming call.

As far as I can remember, not yet - no (although let me double check that whenever I get hold of my iPhone cable). Like you said, the only way to do it at the minute under the "Share" options is by e-mailing it.
Edit: there's no option to sync voice memos in iTunes. Seems like a major Apple oversight to me!
