Is it possible to backup an iPhone on a second computer?

I normally sync my phone at home, but I'll be picking up a 3Gs tomorrow on the way to work and I'd like to restore from my work Mac. My work mac doesn't have any of my apps or much of my music, so I'm wondering if I can backup my 3G today on my work computer and then plug in my new 3Gs tomorrow morning and restore from the backup and be right where I left off. Or will it not add my apps and music?

Anyone tried something similar?

You can do the backup and then manually set up the sync options (each of those tabs you can click on after selecting your phone in the devices list on the left of iTunes) to not sync with the non-existent music and apps on your work computer (or make sure auto sync is turned off and don't click the Sync button). And if you are just going to do a full restore, then you should be fine.
