So the GPS NAv App. war may be starting. Navigon today released their GPS App for the iPhone. I plan on getting a GPS App for my iPhone but I am unsure on which to get. I never owned a GPS so I am wondering who uses what GPS software units now and their thoughts? Navigon or TomTom software

I've got thE navigon demo on my phone that was made available in europe this week.
As someone who's never owned a navi system, I find it a tad convoluted and was initially somewhat confused.
I'm waiting to see tomtom's implementation before committing.
I have a hunch it may be more to my liking.

Starting? It has been going on for over a month! Navigon released their apps to the European market in mid-June and Sygic have had their app on the European stores for a few weeks as well and they also have versions for the US, antipodean, Russian, and some Asian and Latin American markets as well.
If you want to get a sense of the Navigon's quality, it is worth visiting e.g. the UK store to see how it has been rated (currently 4 stars from 352 ratings for the UK version, and 4 stars from 138 ratings for the European one). Sygic's has 3.5 stars from 15 ratings for its European version on the UK store.
TomTom are very, very late to this party.

Roadee
Sygic
Navigon
TomTom
that are the main contenders (in no particular order).

Never heard of your top two, Spheric, guess they aren't in the States (yet).

There's also a company called XRoad that makes a set of apps that go by the name G-Map. From what I understand they were on the iPhone even before OS 3 came out.
iTunes Store - XRoad Co., Ltd.
They're rather inexpensive. There's no subscription fee. And their apps work even w/o a data connection.
