iPhone sync and application problem

	I need a little help. I sync'd my iPhone through iTunes and all my applications disappeared. It backed up the phone before it happened but all the apps don't show up. I checked the iTunes library and it has the apps folder, however it's empty. I tried to restore and it didn't work. Does Mac hide the backup anyplace other than the library>application support folder? Will anything else matter or have I lost those apps forever? Thanks.
