How do I keep my iphone app progress after imac reinstall?

I have a lot of games on my iphone and I have been told when I reinstall on my imac and resync my iphone after a reinstall itunes will make me format my iphone. does anyone know if there is anyway around this???

Who told you that? Worst case you would just have to restore from a backup. When you sync from a new machine, it should not overwrite your iPhone unless you've set up iTunes that way. You shouldn't have a problem.
