Hi,

anybody got any experience on using the current iPod Nano or Classic with an external microphone? I've got a mic with it's own battery source and obviously it can be connected to an iPod via Line-In. Now the description page for the current Nano says it has an internal mic and you can see screens of some control meter where you set the amplitude. However, it does not say you can use your own mic.
On the info page on the Classic it says nothing at all about recording.

So, has anybody ever used a current iPod for audio recording with an external mic? In torrents with concert recordings I see people using iPods for recording sometimes, so it must be possible. Can I set the line-in amplitude? How much time can I record? I assume I record AIFF or WAVE? Is there a 2 or 4 GB file size limit? Is there a -10 db setting that can be toggled on or off?

Best regards & thx

What line-in are you talking about ?

AFAIK, a hack via a dock connector is necessary to use the line-in functionality.
But that's (most likely) not supported by Apple's software (like the Nano internal mic controls).

This will work with an iPod classic: Griffin Technology: iTalk Pro - Stereo Mic for iPod

and it has a 3.5mm minijack for external microphones/line in.
