I bought a used ipod mini 4gb on ebay, 1st gen. Add said it was fine, only problem battery went dead after 30min. So, I try out the ipod when I get it-the wheel was a bit sticky (not scrolling like it should), and battery didn't hold charge. I installed a new battery (3.7v-old battery was a 3.6V). Charged up battery, tried ipod. The wheel would not scroll, and soon after, the ipod shut off. Waited a few minutes, plugged in wall charger-the apple came on and the battery "Charging" icon was present. Unplugged charger, wheel still didn't work, and then ipod shut off. ORDERED a new wheel. Installed that..SAME THING...Plug into charger on bottom...the APPLE logo appears, then I am at the Language menu, battery icon showing charging, can "lock" and "unlock" and that icon shows on screen in upper left...I touch the wheel and the whole screen goes blank. I can't turn it back on. If I wait a little bit, I can repeat the whole thing. What's up? Please, help..I've spent more on getting a ipod and a bunch of parts then buying a 2gb nano. My hard drives seem to be fine, the screen too.

Well, being such and old product, I'm guessing it's simply suffering from age. My 4G iPod's battery lasts for about 15 minutes and the clickwheel doesn't work at all.

I just installed a new battery, and a new click wheel. I guess you mean that the board has a short in it?

Does it matter in regards to the battery, i.e. 3.6v and 3.7v? Maybe the extra power is shorting out something?
