I backed up 10.4, wiped the HD, installed 10.6, and I registered iTunes with my account. Plugged in my iPhone, hit sync, and POOF, all my apps disappeared. I'm going to be kind of annoyed if all my data is gone from them. Nothing popped up to warn me about this either. All my songs in beatmaker, I was at level like 330 in iMafia, and all the other random stuff.

iTunes warned you explicitly about what would happen.

Don't you still have your 10.4 backup?

I'm not entirely clear why everything was wiped.

Yes, I still have my 10.4 backup. I was hoping someone would be able to point me to

1. Get the contacts from my phone, into my address book. Or somehow import all my contacts from 10.4 address book to 10.6. Before I wiped I "backed up" the contact list from within address book, but it seems that 10.6 does not have an "import from existing backup" feature like 10.4 had. Either way, I need my contacts synced and backed up on my computer.

2. Get the apps back. With their info, if possible.

3. It's also asking me some crazy question about deleting all the photos from my phone and replacing them with some in the library, or something like that. ????

Hopefully you backed up the "Music" directory. Isn't that where iTunes keeps everything or is it just the music?

You erased the HD and everything on it.
iTunes does not store your files for you on their server.

How did you back up your 10.4 stuff? Copying or did you use Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper to an external HD?

If you just copied stuff, you have a lot of work to do.

With respect to your Photos/Music/Apps, you should restore your Music and Pictures folders from your 10.4 backup. Then when you launch iTunes and connect your iPhone your old data is still there.

As far as Contacts, that's why I use MobileMe. Yeah I know it's expensive but I have been saved countless times by having Contacts, Mail settings, Bookmarks, Keychains all backed up in the Cloud. I think if you restore your ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder you'll have all your Contacts back.

You should have some manual iPhone backups, you can restore your iPhone using these.

I've wiped my PC recently. If I hit sync in iTunes, it tells me that it will erase my apps and data and sync them with the *new* library. My library has everything in it that it did before, but I haven't done it yet, because I don't want to lose the saved data from my apps.

There needs to be a way to migrate from one library to another.

Yes, I have that entire folder on my external HD. But when I click on my phone and click backup, there is no way to "Browse" for a backup. And honestly, I'm afraid to hit "backup" because I don't want to lose my contacts. I did "backup" my contacts in 10.4, it created a backup file, but apparently in Apple's brilliance, 10.6 cannot read the 10.4 backup file. WTF!?

How?

Could you please be more specific? When you say restore, do you mean an in app menu selection from within address book? Or do you mean copying files?

In both cases, I'm referring to copying the files manually.
