Hi All!

My friend got a new iPad, and I helped him set it up by using my mac.. authorizing it on my mac.. and putting some music/apps on it. Now he is selling it, as he wants the 3G model. I asked him to come back to my house, so I can de-authorize it, but he emailed me back, and said he already de-authorized & re-set it to the factory defaults.. Should I insist that he reset/de-authorize it on my mac??

Thanks!

I'm not sure that he can still deauthorize once he reset it to factory default.
Not sure if Apple's server keeps track of factory reset devices. It is possible that the device is still registered as authorized, but you an't deauthirze it anymore because it's been reset.

Only solution: You can deauthorize ALL computers / devices once the limit of 5 is reached. If you have less than 5 authorized, you first need to get to that limit before iTunes lets you do that.

I thought that it was computers that were authorized (to play DRMed iTunes songs) not iPods, ipads, etc?

Does an ipad only need to be activated with a pc to use? After that, it will work anywhere.

I'm not sure if the iPad is treated like a computer. But you are right, iPods and iPhones did not need to be authorized.

iPads are devices, not computers. They don't count toward the 5 computer limit and resetting them clears out your account info.

How long before he downloads a paid app and owes you money? He IS using your iTunes account, and THAT needs to be changed. It can be done from his copy of iTunes on his PC.

You could always change your iTunes password and be safe from any spurious purchases.

Eriamjh, thanks. I assume that if he's telling the truth, that he reset it to factory defaults, it will no longer have access to my iTunes account.. no?

Thanks to all.. thanks.

No. Even with the factory reset, if he knows your iTunes log in and password, that's all he needs to access it. It doesn't matter what device he has. You should change your password.

Thanks Steve

However, the person is one of my most trusted friends, so I doubt that he would ever do something like that to me... However, I may just follow through and change the dang password. ArGH! LOL

Thanks all!
