I have a long out of warranty iPhone 3g whose metal inset for the sleep button fell out. I bought an oem replacement but I can't figure out how on earth the sleep button can be removed - the black plastic bit and metal ring are still there as the metal part glued on just popped out.

Anyone know how the button is attached? Please don't tell me I have to disassemble the whole device!

By the way I can't take it to an apple store - too far away!
