I had once tried an older iPod and was impressed with how easy it was to use.

Now that I've bought my own I find the scroll wheel to be sometimes not responsive. I noticed this on the classic and nano also. Has anyone else noticed this? It's pretty annoying (and surprising).

Make sure your hands and the iPod are clean, they rely on essentially an electrical connection between your thumb and the wheel.
If the iPod you tried was the first gen iPod, then I can see the difference the first gen wheel physically rotated with your thumb and to some degree it was more tactical. but it did encounter the same problem that blackberry trackballs do, dirt.

It's brand new so no dirt anywhere. I'm surprised the product got worse with age, usually things are improved.

I have an odd issue. At least one of my songs on the ipod will not show the artist if I choose to list by artist.
I checked on the first and last name and neither is listed. The song, though, is listed when I choose to list by song.
In itunes both song name and artist are listed.
I don't get it.

I had the same issue, it turns out if something is listed in iTunes as part of a compilation it won't show up under artist search. To change this select all of the songs by that artist, or multiple songs anyway. Then select Get Info from the file menu. Under the Options tab deselect the part of a compilation checkbox.

Thanks! What a bizarre feature. That should be something we should be able to set in preferences so it never does that.
I can see doing that if you are sorting by album, but the artist should always be listed separately.
