This seems like a really stupid question, but I've been too afraid to test it out.

My poor 8 GB iPod Touch is almost full, mostly due to apps. When you delete apps, you always get a dialog box warning you about removing the apps and the apps' data. This is fine, but in some games and apps that I may want to get back to later, such as puzzle games, I've completed a number of levels, and I don't want to lose that progress. If I delete one of these apps and then later put it back on the Touch, do I basically start over from scratch or is my progress kept in the backup in iTunes and is restored when I put the app back on the device?

Saved game data is a part of that 'app's data' warning you see. You'll have to start over from scratch, unless you do a backup of your iPod Touch in its current state and restore it to get those games and saved game data back.

Just what I suspected. That sucks.

Could jailbreaking separate the data and make it "restoreable" with an app without having to do a full restore?
