Got it. Updated. Usual chunky 280+Mb download. Lets see how it works out during today with the bars issue. My phones proximity sensor seemed a bit wonky too and the phone would sometimes spontaneously dial someone or play something from the iPod while in my pocket with the screen locked. So hopefully we'll see some bugs squashed.

Supposedly 4.0.1 will "ameliorate" the signal/antenna/bars issue, but to what degree remains to be seen. As I no longer have an iP4 (a date with the rain last week put an end to her short life...), I'd be interested to hear how the update goes.

After upgrading to 4.01, my 3Gs provides both less stellar indications and, interestingly enough, better low signal indications. I work inside a steel framed, steel framework skinned building, so cell service has always been sketchy for me. But since the upgrade, I see that I do have service in some areas that I thought were pretty much to be given up on, and in areas I got calls but had no signal strength indication at all, I now see that I have a small, but measurable signal.

The bars seem more accurate to me. I was getting 5 bars all over my apartment from a microcell, now I get 5 when I'm near it, and it drops as low as three on the fringes.

I can still drop it one or two bars with a death grip, even with a bumper.

Apple was affected to amend its just-released iOS 4 in break of consumers complaints apropos iPhone 4s accession antenna. iPhone 4s showed arrangement signals falling down if absorbed at its lower larboard corner. For the aboriginal time Apple responded that the accountability was with its hardware; and after it adapted that a software amend will fix the problem.
I own a iphone3GS and enjoy the great applications

Anyone having their reception lock-up?

It's happened a couple times to me. The bars freeze, and you can't make/get calls/texts. If you try and reset it with Airplane Mode, once you turn that off you're stuck with "Searching..."

Reboot takes care of it until the next time.

Saw it happen on a 3GS 3.1.3 today... Not a SIM issue?

Could be. I honestly have no idea.

I was going off of no issues for 10-15 days, then after the upgrade it's happened twice.
