I just read in the iPhone tech sheet that the iPhone music-only battery life is 40h, while the iPod classic can only go for 36h. I find that very hard to believe. I will trust anybody on this board, before the Apple webpage on this point.

What is hard to believe about mechanical devices requiring more power for operation than flash memory?

I don't understand the question - it's like asking why a VW Lupo can go 1000 km on a tank of gas, while a truck can only go 800.

Even if you disregard the fact that the truck's tank has 20 times the capacity of the Lupo's the question is just . . . "where to begin?"

iPhone has a 1420 mAh battery.
iPod classic has a 580 mAh battery.
