I simply want to know how to lock the iPad in a horizontal or vertical position. Dumb, I know . . .

The left side of the multitasking bar with the iPod controls

iPad on iOS 4: Orientation lock goes software, switch goes mute, brightness gets slider | TiPb

Apparently in 4.3 the side switch will be, er, switchable in the settings between it being a mute switch and an orientation lock.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

Got it. I wondered why the side button muted. I don't keep up as much as I should.
