My ipod won't turn off. I held the power button for 10 seconds and now it's just doing that circle thing in the middle. It won't turn off or on. I plug it in to my computer and I get an error message and itunes doesn't recognize it. HELP! This has never happened

What is the error message?
Have you tried a complete reset?

Completely drain the batteries, the screen should turn off when the battery is out and this should take a couple of days.

After it turns off, try letting it rest for a couple of hours, or maybe a day.

If you still see the idle screen, I would call customer service.
