Hello there!
Quick question. I've never upgraded to a newer iOS because I just bought a iPhone 4 in July. If I upgrade to iOS 5, will my Text Messages get erased or will they stay intact?
Thanks!

It won't be if you back it up with iTunes, upgrade, and the chose to restore with a previous backup (as opposed to set it up as a new iPhone).

Text messages will stay intact. You don't have to do anything special.

Hmmm.... Not quite.
When you get to this screen:
Click option 2-restore from a backup.

You never see that screen if you just upgrade.
You only ever see that if you RESTORE the iPhone and then install the newest firmware.
If you just click "Download and install now", everything is preserved completely automatically.

I just restored mine from backup to iOS 5 and all is preserved. No location based alerts on reminders on 3GS though, can't fathom why thats disabled.
