Remember those days when VZ rejected the iPhone because it meant relinquishing power on what you can do with your phone, keeping you in the walled garden of "Get it now", $4.99 PacMan subscriptions, and VCast multimedia and ringtones. If I remember well, Cingular once charged me for some apps, a few kilobytes and a day of GPS I used in an emergency.
Now, there are no surprises from the cellular carriers, but the money rolls toward an organization that explores ways to make us even more addicted to them... But in a good way, and a global universe of developers who make a living with their trade.
How was this power wrestled away from all telcos? What is it worth to you? Would you want to go back to a system where the phone manufacturer was the same as the network operator? Free 4S in exchange for going back to $9.99 Facebook subscription?
Just something to think about in Thanksgiving...
