Hi,

I was on Verizon but switched to Sprint for my iPhone 4S for the unlimited data plan. Apparently, the phone has already been shipped, but I also received an email from Sprint that the tentative date when my number will be ported is Nov 1.

From Sprint:
"The request for porting your number to Sprint has been submitted, and the estimated date of completion is 11/01/2011"

Is it usual for the porting of a phone number to take that long? Is the delay on Verizon's end?

Thanks
JTM

It shouldn't take more than a week, especially with a cell phone. Do you have a password on your Verizon account?

Did you give Sprint the password? If not, that would cause a delay. You may want to try requesting that the password be removed to make the port easier.

Yep, gave Sprint the password, and all the account info when I ordered the 4S. Maybe Sprint or Verizon is just being very cautious because of the high demand? When I get my phone, I'll bug them to get it done sooner.

Btw, here's a goot trick to enable porting numbers from out of state (which AT&T says is impossible):
