I'm wondering if I should keep my old phone and get an iPad or get an iPhone.
I'd like to get work emails and documents and let my kid watch videos and play games.
But I'm not sure I want to carry an iPad around.
Anybody have any pro/con lists or advice on how to choose?

I never carry an iPad around. Quite large and if I'm gonna carry something large, I'd rather carry a laptop, but YMMV.

However, the question is not iPhone or iPad or laptop, it's IMO iPhone-only or iPhone+iPad or iPhone+laptop.

The iPhone is perfectly fine for emails and not so great for documents and videos. Watching videos on a such a small screen is irritating, but it's better than nothing (ie. when I don't carry a laptop or iPad with me).

I usually carry the ipad around with me, it easily fits into my purse. I'm sure there's a man-bag that could work for you. Having it with me means lots of options if I run into downtime, or if I have to entertain bored kids. It has saved me when I needed directions (mcd's has free wifi!) and I have used it shopping (lists, preloading shop websites). I found it much easier to tote while traveling than a laptop. Airplane travel is especially suited.

I don't have an iphone however, which is much more portable. The times I leave the iPad home is when I think a) I don't want to carry a purse or need the room in my purse for other things, b) I'd have to leave my purse in an unsecure area, c) weather is bad (iphone can hide easier in waterproof coat).

It would be even more indispensible if I had 3g or some kind of tethering.

I carry my iPad around. It fits perfectly in this small messenger bag that I take most places.

iPad. I rarely use my iPhone since I own an iPad.

To the OP:

Where do you live?
Do you always keep your phone in your pocket?
Do you use your phone to make a lot of calls, or do you text more?
